Yes, it is possible.

Really?
I'm using the command line version on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I have just completed a backup of mail1@gmail.com. Using ./gmail-backup.sh backup backupdir mail2@gmail.com password, I'm getting:
GMail Backup revision 691 (2009-02-20)
Restoring the content of account mail2@gmail.com from backupdir
End of restoring of account mail2@gmail.com
And there's nothing in the Gmail account when I go look.
Sorry if there's a better place to post this question. I'm just at a bit of a loss, being mostly a command line noob and all.
Thanks!
Answer?
Did anyone get an answer to this question? I'm having the same problem myself. I go into my new gmail account after "Restoring" my email from the old account, and there is nothing new there at all!

Did anyone get an answer to this question? I have had the same problem, using Windows 7. I have successfully backed up my email from my old gmail account, but when I try to restore it to the new gmail account, there is nothing there!
Need to know also
Just ran a backup and a restore to another address, it says it went successfully but the new gmail is empty.
Pretty much same issue as above.
It goes to all mail select

Check All Media
I thought I was experiencing an issue also. But it might be that your mail has been imported but the labels have not been applied.
You should see all your mail in the "All Mail" section.
I believe the labels are applied at the end of the restore process, so it's not until all the mail has been imported will you see them appear in your inbox.
Program is restoring file to
Program is restoring file to the other label.Originally there is "new email" label active when you re logging on gmail. You can change label from the option on your lef side.
Does not work for me on OS X either
Per the thread "Restore failed? SOLUTION", it may be that the Python version simply cannot restore. I'll try the Windows version next. I was hoping to avoid that!
Here's the output I got:
GMail Backup revision 691 (2009-02-20)
Restoring the content of account adam@adamshost.com from backup_for_adam
End of restoring of account adam@adamshost.com
It just took a few seconds, not nearly long enough to restore the 5GB worth of messages in my backup.
Windows version works for restores
I installed the Windows version in XP under VMware Fusion. It's restoring now, It's a shame I couldn't do this under native OS X, but I'm happy that it works at all.

Doesnt work for me
Restore seems ok in gb's interface(took like two hours), but when i log in to my email, the uploaded emails are not there. Not in the 'all mail', not anywhere else. Note: i created A copy of all labels from my old account before restoring.
Any suggestions? I dont even know where to start..
