Downloading all emails from your Gmail Account every time you want to backup your emails would be a nightmare. In this case it comes in hand the incremental downloading feature of email. Gmail Backup checks all emails in the Gmail Account whether their are already downloaded. If so than it skips them. It only download emails which are not presented in your local copy. However, the checking emails takes time too. As result, we recommend to specify the date since you want to download emails. For example: In the example, I specify that I want do check and eventually download emails since 1 January 2008. Consequently, the process of updating of your backup is much faster. In a future release, we will add feature which will get, from the local backup, the latest date of your downloaded email. And it will use it for incremental backup. Nonetheless, you must be aware that this solution will not be bullet proof. In some cases, you can get outdated emails resp. new emails with old date. Your GMail Backup Team |

IMAP necessary?
Is it necessary to enable IMAP in gmail before using GmailBackup?
And I can't find any info aboiut what exactly is backed up? The All Mail folder, according to date parameters?
Thanks! -- dom
Yes
Hi dom,
yes, the IMAP access is necessary to run GMail Backup. If you don't have an IMAP access, you will get the following message:
Error: IMAP: [ALERT] Your account is not enabled for IMAP use. Please visit your Gmail settings page and enable your account for IMAP access. (Failure)

POP and IMAP
Can I use this even if I already use a mail client to download my mail via POP? I would like to create independent, redundant systems to backup my e-mails.
Does the application backup
Does the application backup also all the mails in sent folder of gmail, or just the inbox?
Thanks in advance.
i'm using stat to get the last backup date
Great program!!
I've setup a script to do incremental backups, and I use stat to get the last modified time of the labels.txt file. e.g.:
stat -f %Sc -t %Y%m%d labels.txt
this gives me the last modified date of that file in the format that gmail backup wants. works great.
(this is on a mac)
thanks again for your great work.
HOW DID YOU GET IT TO RUN
Hi

Almost there
Big improvement over the last version. But some emails still slip through when I perform a test restore to another GMail account (about 10 conversations out of almost 1200, not sure why) and read/unread status is not preserved.
Restore emails
I used this tool for my google application & work as backup my email but when i deleted my email from google server or from my mailbox, i used restore button but mails does not restored.

gmail back ups
Even though the dates are specified for incremental back ups, it starts checking for the whole emails from the start, and it takes down. And though it states that it has downloaded, 20%, 30%, nothing is seen in the 'specified output folder' even after many many attempts.
