Security issues with giving a user's password away

Hi all,

The tool looks really cool but I have my concerns as to the fact that its not open sourced (you just give the Python binaries) and you are requesting users to give them their usernames and password for their Email.

I know that there is no other more secure way of accessing one's Email box (I wish they had OAuth - http://oauth.net support for accessing the Email box), but I'm sure you do see why I'm concerned about this tool.

I would suggest you open source the tool so that everyone could benefit from it without fearing something malicious is being done with their username and password.

RE: Security issues

I'd like to second that request - I love the tool and will gladly donate to support it, but I am not comfortable with the password issue. Open sourcing it will resolve that.

Security with password solution

Why not before you do the backup, go into your gmail and temporarily change your password. Then when finished with the backup & restore, go back into your gmail and change your password back to your original password.

Much better solution - best for security

Go here:

bit.ly/zz6thj

You'll be able to generate software\app specific passwords, giving them a limited access to your account and having the option to revoke their access anytime.
You'll never need to type your real password.
