I've just finished the backup for last 3 years and it's like 30K .eml files in a single folder, making it very, very slow to open (most of file-systems are usually not very good with that much files in a single dir) and also hard to use in any meaningful way. I think that adding some sort of a hierarchy into the backup would help a lot to speed up and simplify thing. My suggestion is simply to offer option to create subfolders for each year and month, thus organizing the backup as an archive. It will speed up the FS operations by reducing the number of files per dir, plus it will allow for easy search/restoring of just emails that are needed (like search just last month or restore particular month). |

Split the backup into subfolders like threads
Split backup by threads, as it does Gmail, it has the send email and it responses all together as a forum thread. Do the backup like Gmail view.
