Jan Švec and Filip Jurčíček are doing very good with this site and the gmail backup tool, however when we were looking for a gmail backup solution it did not fit our needs that well, so we also developed Gmail Keeper (http://GmailKeeper.com), it backup gmail emails and labels, data is stored as EML files in an encrypted (optional) zip archive, the most important is that the backup routine can be scheduled and automated, and it supports multiple accounts at a time :)
